Prolate-spherical shape coexistence at N=28 in 44S.
The structure of 44S has been studied by using delayed γ and electron spectroscopy. The decay rates of the 02+ isomeric state to the 2(1)+ and 0(1)+ states, measured for the first time, lead to a reduced transition probability B(E2: 2(1)+→0(2)+)=8.4(26) e(2) fm4 and a monopole strength ρ2(E0: 0(2)+→0(1)+)=8.7(7)×10(-3). Comparisons to shell model calculations point towards prolate-spherical sha...
متن کاملProlate - oblate shape coexistence at high spin in 175 Hf
The recent experimental observation of collective rotational bands up to I > 60h̄ in 175Hf presents theoretical challenges. It is shown here that total Routhian surface calculations are able to explain the yrast high-spin behavior, with collective oblate states favored at I ∼ 35h̄ and strongly deformed prolate states at the highest spins. The collective oblate rotation terminates in noncollective...

متن کاملIon beam-induced shaping of Ni nanoparticles embedded in a silica matrix: from spherical to prolate shape
Present work reports the elongation of spherical Ni nanoparticles (NPs) parallel to each other, due to bombardment with 120 MeV Au+9 ions at a fluence of 5 × 1013 ions/cm2. The Ni NPs embedded in silica matrix have been prepared by atom beam sputtering technique and subsequent annealing. The elongation of Ni NPs due to interaction with Au+9 ions as investigated by cross-sectional transmission e...
